Abstract
Osseointegration: from titanium to zirconia
The accidental discovery of the phenomenon of osseointegration by P.I. Brånemark has changed the lives of millions of patients for more than 5 decades and his legacy lives on in our daily practice. Dental implantology has evolved through the efforts of clinicians and researchers around the world who continually bring innovation to further improve treatment outcomes for our patients. Advances in surgical techniques and protocols, materials, and a deeper understanding of the complex biological events that take place during osseointegration have allowed dental implants to become the treatment of choice to replace missing teeth. The development of new implantable materials such as zirconia have opened the door to a new era in dental implantology. This conference will cover the evolution of dental implantology and provide a look at how the “intelligent implants” of the future are developing today.
